We make a tasty food that is a great alternative to soy. Don’t get us wrong, we enjoy soy as much as the next person. But you know once you follow a plant-based diet (or even if you are a flexitarian!) you come to realise that almost all the protein alternatives are made from soy. It’s so refreshing to have just one more choice, after all, variety is the spice of life.

what is in it?

Tohu is made using ground up chickpeas. Chickpea flour or sometimes called gram flour. We’ve added our special combination of flavours, as directed by Su Su, of fresh ginger, fresh garlic, ground turmeric, sea salt and black pepper. That’s what makes it taste better than just the chickpeas alone.

why is it tofu?

This is trickier to answer. Strictly speaking ‘tofu’ seems to be a term thats reserved for soy tofu only…perhaps because of the added coagulant that is added to to soy to make it stick together. But the chickpea flour when prepared this way, uses it’s own “coagulant’ and that’s what makes it set into a block once cooled. Traditionally it’s been called Burmese Tofu, Tohu, Yellow Tofu…it’s got a few names, but…
